DCWV Spring Fling / Give Away

Hello Everyone,
Here is a quick post. I made this mini in about 3 hrs. If you are ever wandering what to do with a box of blank thank you cards make a mini! It's super fun. A few cuts here and there add some embellies and whoila.....a super cute mini for that special someone.

I am a huge fan of Die Cuts With a View. They have a variety of stack packs and matching boxed cards for any occasions. Well this past week I went into Joann's to pick up some fabric and they had "The Spring Fling" collection on sale for 50% off and I had an additional 30% off on top of that. By the time I left there I only paid.$3.49. I can make 4 mini albums. It doesn't get any better than that.

So I am going to be GIVING this mini away. All you have to do is leave a comment. And on July 15 I will pick a winner from those who have left a comment. Don't worry the mini will be in a sealed bag after this post.  Good luck..........TFL

This mini can hold 22 - 4x5 pictures ( thats not including the tags )

Day 1 Graphic 45 " Little Darlings" album

Hello Everyone,
Well today's post is a little teaser. I am on my second project for 1 of  3 swaps that I am participating in the month of July.  I decided to participated in a rather large forum. The task was making a mini album with your partners 5 favorite colors. I was praying that I would get a person that loved  Graphic 45 because they just introduced a new collection series ( I really only wanted an excuse to buy their new paper line "Little Darlings").  My prayers were answered so off I went. And her color scheme was just what I was hoping. Aw beautiful pastel colors........PERFECT!

However were guidelines you have to use a paper bags ( nothing smaller that a lunch bag) or envelopes( didn't specify size on that one). Well being that my partner just had a baby I knew she would not have time to scrap her child's first years of pictures (face it you all take a million pictures with your first born and never get caught up to archive them). The idea was already in motion I knew I wanted to recycle those Large FedEx envelopes. So here is a picture of day one of whats to come. TFL and please do come back or you will miss it.

What you see in the picture are the envelopes trimmed and hand stitch, burlap fabric, Ranger distress inks, some white shimmer paint, grey paint and of course The Graphic 45 "Little Darlings" paper pack.

Shabby Flower

Happy Tuesday!
Todays post is about the love of shabby chic items. I know the world wide web has so many wonderful and creative items that are related to what we call shabby chic.  For those of you that do not know:

Definiton:
Shabby chic items are often heavily painted through the years, with many layers showing through obviously time-worn areas. The style is imitated in faux painting using glaze or by painting then rubbing and sanding away the top coat to show the wood or base coats. Fabrics tend to be cottons and linens, with linen being particularly popular, inspired by old French linens. Pure whites, as well as eucos and worn or bleached out pastels are favorite colours. Fabric is often stained with tea to give it the look of old fabric. Bleached and faded are terms often applied to the style. It is not meant for old chipped furniture.
The essence of today's shabby chic style is vintage and antique furniture with the original aged paint, or painted white (or another soft pastel color) and distressed at the corners by sanding. Antique pieces such as pie safes and jelly cupboards are popular in shabby chic décor.[2]
Popular decor items are pillows made of vintage barkcloth fabric, vintage linens, chenille bedspreads, vintage chandeliers, and anything with roses on it. It is a soft, relaxed feminine romantic way of decorating that looks comfortable and inviting. Also called cottage style.

Origin of term:
The term was coined by The World of Interiors magazine in the 1980s and became extremely popular in the US in the '90s with a certain eclectic surge of decorating styles with paints and effects, notably in metropolitan cultural centres on the West Coast of America, such as LA and San Francisco, with heavy influences from Mediterranean cultures such as Provence, Tuscany and Greece.
Shabby chic is also a general term which can be used to refer to a person who is stylish rather than fashionable, where their style reflects quality as opposed to newness.

History:
The style started in Great Britain and evokes the type of decoration found in large country houses where there are worn and faded old chintz sofas and curtains, old paintwork and unassuming 'good' taste. The end result of shabby chic is to achieve an elegant overall effect, as opposed to the sentimentally cute Pop-Victorian. Recycling old furniture and fabrics is an important aspect of the look and was especially popular with modern Bohemians and artisans that made up a sidelined counter-culture movement during the 1980s when expensive quality decor became very fashionable with the upper middle classes. The original shabby chic interiors were usually considered in themselves works of art.
The early forms of shabby chic were rather grand but the style has evolved taking inspiration from many forms of decoration. These range from 18th century Swedish painted decoration, the French Chateau as well as the American Shakers where simplicity and plainness was essential.

Thank you Wikipedia for this information. Here is my contribution to the shabby chic revolution. My muslin flower that has been torn into 3 different section and attached by thread. This can be dyed to whatever color your heart desires. And of course lets not forget the usages hairbands, broaches, wristlets, scrap book minis, scrap book layouts, cards, frames, necklace etc. Can you Imagine? TFL

My Flower Day!

Hi Everyone,

Well in the midst of cleaning up my space I came across my bin of die cut flowers that I had punch out with my leftover scraps of paper. After all true crafters never waste anything. When I finally had gotten my space clean. I decided to do something fun and mindless. Because I needed a break from 3 different swaps projects that I am currently working on.

All I did was sprayed these flower die cuts with my home made shimmer spray, crinkled the paper, let it dry an whoa la some very shabby flowers. If you search YouTube you will find a very amazing craftier by the name of Roxycar. I believe she did this technique some time ago.

My other motivation was to do something nice for one of my fellow crafters. I have a scrappin'/craftin' sister that has been chatting with on a regular basis who has inspired me to really think outside the box ( who wouldn't love a challenge). And because we constantly bouncing ideas and in hopes to open our own ning site I have made this collection for her. Hope she likes it. TFL

Hi Everyone,

So I made a little trinket to have in her office so that she can enjoy her first grand baby. Once again I use a dollar box from Michael's, Swarovski crystals ( cause she is all about the bling) homemade paper and ribbon flowers, 1$ stamp images, want2scrap bling, mod podge, vintage photo distress ink and a vintage button.

Graphic 45 - Once Upon a Springtime

Hi Everyone
Super brief! I had purchased a couple of sheets of "Once upon a Springtime" by Graphic 45.
I loved this paper so much I knew I wanted to create something but what? So I did a simple LO. I had the girl at my local scrapbook give me some advice. I just wanted to keep it simple. I took some of her advice jotted it down and came home and created it ( only cause I didn't want to forget ). Hope you like it.

Prima Shadow box

Hi Everyone,
Well I hope everyone is super excited like I am now that summer is coming. The thing I love the most is B-BQs, getting some warm sunshine, a little tan, and just plain being out with my hubby and friends. Although it may keep me from crafting. I will still try and post some goodies for you all to see. Well I need to get current so I may be doing several post in one day. I was going to try and get at least 200 post by the end of the year. The key word is "TRY". So here goes.

I had got this paper from Prima Marketing Inc the latter part of last year and the ocd part of me prepped everything( which was when I bought it) ahead of time. So now I do not recall what the paper line was. I am sure it is no longer available. Sorry!

I am sorry for the glare I guess when I took the picture my mirror closet created the reflection.

Okay so here is a close up view. I used home made flowers from a cricut cartridge and the bird nest was from some left over filler my hubby used for a photo shoot and the clay eggs a friend of mine made. Thanks Steff! I also used chipboard pieces and dipped them in UTEE and glitter. There is some platnium stickles around the butterfly and of course the bird, butterfly and flowers were all cut out from the paper line. And the box was from a alphabet die cut set that I had emptied.
